Catching up

Once again, I fell off the blog wagon. Early in the pandemic, I found I had extra time on my hands, with which I might keep up with writing on the blog. I did OK for a while, but it didn’t take long for the work environment to catch up to the new work-from-your-livingroom situation, and expand to fill all the hours formerly spent in the office, and then some. Thus, I have been woefully neglectful in posting things to this blog; I’ve tried to at least occasionally put something on the chad-o-matic blogger site, but we use that site more to give the extended family a sense of what we’re up to, than for any longer-form writings. So, this post will be a bit of a catch-you-up on what’s transpired in the last year or so.
For starters, we moved. The SF Bay Area was feeling very crowded; we couldn’t readily go camping without making reservations months in advance, and negotiating traffic getting out of town (or coming back) was as bad as it was before the pandemic, and maybe worse – lots more bad/aggressive/borderline psycho driving. With the kid out of the house and off to college, and my “office” taking up a large fraction of the house, we started contemplating a sooner-rather-than-later approach to finding a retirement home. After a lot of analysis and then visiting a few places, we settled on Santa Fe, New Mexico and, in short order, bought a house there, moved our stuff, put the old house on the market, and sold it. We’ve been happy New Mexico residents for a little over a year now!
